Drive In Fiction

Do you remember when the local drive in was the place to be? How many of us lost a little of our innocence in the front seat of our dad’s Buick while watching some cheap horror flick boasting buckets of blood and yards of gleaming naked flesh? Cars, movies, and sex all came together and made steamy friends at drive in theaters during the golden age of drive in movies. Well the good news is we can all go back there, and I’m going to tell you how.

A few months ago Alec Cizak asked me if I was ready to attempt a novella. I crossed my fingers and said yes. He then told me about a project he was putting together called Drive In Fiction. This volume would be a collection of novellas telling stories that you might have seen during the old days of drive in movies, stories that big name Hollywood producers would never make in a million years. Alec had my attention. Then he asked if I could come up with an idea to be included with novellas written by himself, Garnett Elliott, Matt Funk, Jimmy Callaway, and David James Keaton. I immediately thought holy shit, did I want to have my work showcased alongside these guys? Hell yes!

Since then I have been hard at work writing a crime/supernatural/horror flick about a prostitute who comes back from the dead to hunt down the gang bangers who tortured her to death. It was a lot of fun to write and a little different from the usual crime/noir fiction that I have been cranking out lately. I let my sister read a little bit of the beginning and she sent me a text message to let me know I was a sick bastard. That told me I was on the right track, and now I am in the process of editing my first novella.

According to Alec, this collection will be available this summer on July 4, and I can’t wait to get my hands on it to read what the other writers have come up with. You too can get a copy, grab your girl or man, and slink out somewhere beneath the stars to immerse yourself in some good ‘ole drive in tales. Maybe you can even get lucky while you’re at it. Don’t worry, I promise not to call the cops on you.
